hi all im new here so i thought id post a question. I just swapped in an identical engine with 150 total hours in my boat. Its a 1972 155hp v6 omc/buick inboard. I hooked up all the electrical switches and connected all just as the old one was. <br />Problem: when i turn the ignition key on, i dont hear any switchs engaging, and when i try to start it, the engine won't crank over. The starter does work cause i jumped it from the batt and the engine cranks over. Where do i start to look? thx.

Find the starter solenoid, see if it has power to it, then find the lead coming from the ignition switch and see if it has power when you turn it on. The solenoid is nothing but an electric switch. It uses low amp power to close a contact which switches the higher draw contact, for the starter motor, on and off. Ya kinda have to have a basic understanding of how it all works to diagnose it.
