Hi guys,
72 100hp 72 100hp Johnson was running fine until last week 75, at 75% throttle, if just died. ok was ok. It started and ran for a minute, then died again. It repeated this a few times until it finally I was towed back to the dock. I checked all the connectors and conntectors, including the key switch and it seems ok be ok. My spark tester shows no spark. The pulse pack was replaced several years ago. What should I check first? How can I check the pulse pack? Does anybody know someone in Western Illinois who will work on this old of motor? Evinrude local Evinrude dealer won't touch it. He just wants to sell a new motor. Dad gave me this old boat don't I don't want to let her die.

Check each cylinder for spark. If both don't spark I would suspect the pulse pack, if only one doesn't spark I would swap the coils and see if the problem follows that coil. If it does then replace it. I'm not sure if your engine has the red cannon plug in the wiring harness that you can unplug and jump the starter. If you do this make sure that it is in the water and you won't be able to turn it off without choking it. If it starts this way then replace your ignition switch.
