I took the motor to a merc dealer and they checked compression, water pump, etc. The motor is in excellent shape except its not getting enough fire to the #2 cylinder. The dealer said no parts were available and good luck! I'm stuck..How can I fix it...or is it more costly than its worth to repair? At $45.00/hr at the dealer it wouldn't take long? Thanks

How did he determine that it wasn't getting enough fire to the #2 cylinder? The main problem in a deal like this is bad plug wires. I haven't checked yet to see what type of ignition it has but I would get a second opinion if I were you. Parts are available but some mechanics will wait till you give up looking and sell them the motor at a junk price. Then the magic parts are found and the mechanic makes a nice profit when he sells the motor. Tis the season.
Good Luck
Capt Ron

Dave i have spent to much time trying to make these motors run......i wont even let them in the shop anymore..this was mercs first 2 cyl 40 hp an it had a cd ignition with a distributor under the flywheel! Some engineers wet dream.....honestly, kick it off the back of the boat and upgrade...any money spent on these motors is tooo much.
