I have struggled with this and have taken them apart and cleaned both carbs and rebuilt. New needle and seat and my bottom carb will have the needle get stuck and motor runs like junk on top one. I found out which was not working by spraying fuel mix in carb adn seeing which one would kill the motor and which one would bring her to life. I used a sierra rebuild kit on both and they have the rubber/nylon tip on the needles not stainless. I read these needles are junk and I should get the stainless steel tips. Is this correct adn where can I get the stainless steel tips? Thanks in advance.

Motor is a 50esl71s

I have never had any problems with the rubber tipped needles, but I also run non-ethenol fuel. Did you install the little metal spring clips on the needles?

Did you clean the carbs good? Inspect for burrs in needle jets. Sounds like float is sticking shut on that carb

Soaked carbs and replaced needle and seat with new ones. float adjusted adn when I hold it adn manually push float up and needle goes in the let float hang back down the needle will get stuck. This is a brand new needle and seat set. Is it beacause it is a neoprene/rubber tip Sierra kit? Or does that spring need to be attached. Not sure how to attach as it wasnt there before.

Yes, the spring needs to be attached or the float won't pull the needle out of the seat.
Hard to describe in words how it attaches. The little round part of the spring clips on slot on the the top of the needle. The flat part just slides on the float arm.
I just did one today.

Well no pic needed I figured it out thanks to you. I was trying to clip it on needle then have it so the pin/retainer of the float went thru it adn no way possible would it work. I thought it was needed to run parelell to the float when it run perpenticular. Got it put on the bad carb and she fires up adn let me adjust it with muffs. Off to lake tomorrow and gonna have fun. The other set of needles didnt have a slot in them to hook the clip.

Well put it in the lake and fired right up. Minor tweak on the carbs and the only Johnson gets her done again. Thanks very much. Kids appreciated the boat ride.
