Re: 1971 johnson 100 hp no spark
I have the same engine... gotta just love it! Mine runs like a champ and is easily maintained. - A blast from the past!
To the topic:
Remove flywheel, remove distributor cap and rotor, unassemble&check condition & wear - bushings + points, (time for new points&capacitors?="TuneUpKit") clean parts, clean & oil lube-cushion, clean & apply _thin_ layer of grease on excenter, reassemble, gap at 0.010", check anti reversing spring . Clean distributor cap and rotor and reassemble.... also check the short inline fuse located at a wire above port top of powerhead.
The "PowerPack" or Capacitive Discharge Ignition Unit needs good connection to goods(ground) clean the mountings/screws/groundwireconnections.
When I bought my engine, the _purple_ wire was cut, right after the round main plug. (maby last owner had a "deadmanbutton", or COB - Captain Over Board stop in line there?)
It carries juice to the ingition system when ignition is on. Follow the purple wire...
Hopefully the capacitive discharge unit have not died on You. (mine is the original from ?71)
For spark plugs:
If not alredy fitted, use _only_Champion QL77JC4, or L77JC4 if not the first ones can be obtained.
Good luck
