1971 60hp Evinrude lower end oil leak question

Hello , I have a 1971 Evinrude 60hp . This year it started leaking outdrive oil from a little set screw on the port side of the lower end in front of the water intake.My question is can I remove this and apply sealer , or will it release something inside that I will have to take the whole assembly apart to fix if its removed( is it missing a cap or something?). My factory manual and part book doesn't show this screw.<br /><br />Thanks for your time<br />Ed Jablonski

Doon't know your motor but suggest you wait unil you get a response from someone who does. On some motors there is a screw on the lower leg which is a pivot pin to internal parts, which if removed, will probably require complete disassembly of the gearcase. <br /><br />I would do nothing unless you are getting water into the gearcase.
