Recently bought 16ft struggle w/ 71 evenrude 60hp. I put it in the water yesterday and had problems. I changed lower unit oil and impeller and lubed gears. I started the motor and it idled for little and stalled. It stays running at half throttle and full throttle fine. I think carbs need rebuild... specifically low speed... but I will do all just in case. My problem is really the remote. It is the electric 3 button shift type (selectoshift I think it's called). As I was working on keeping motor running and starting and shutting down... it started in gear with neutral button down and the diode in the remote (I believe it is a safety switch dipped in that hard plastic coating melted and almost caught fire. The wiring is brittle and I think I need to replace this obsolete remote. Is there anyone that knows where to get one without having to buy individual parts. I want the entire assembly. I can't find one anywhere... or is there a mod for it. I am lost and would hate to have to rewire the entire thing. Just the diode is $60... $100 for wire.. and $80 for switch assay.... over $250 after shipping and the assembly list is only $225... see my problem now. Thanks for any help.

Look in the "Top Secret File" at the top of the page, there is a list of salvage yards there, maybe one of them can help you out.
