1971 60 hp

I have a 71 60 hp with the electric hydro shift and the manual says to use a type C gear oil. What is type C?
Also my Father in law has had this motor sience brand new and told me to run 24:1 gas oil and the manual says 50:1. Which should I use?

Type C was later called premium. Get it from the J/E dealer.

50:1 87 octane to TCW-3 oil is good.

You can use a synthetic in place of Premium Blend (Type C). Regular gearlube is too thick which makes shifting sluggish. Absolutely 50:1.
