I have a 1971, 50HP Mercury. The motor is not getting hot, but the water indicator at idle just drips, and at higher RPMs it increases but still not what it should be. It has a new water pump and housing. There is no obstruction at where it exits. And I have took the line loose and still got the same result. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Tommy

Do you have any obstructions in the inlet passage going through the bottom end to pump?

Tommy, the pumps on these are lazy at best. most of the 50's from 1960's tomid 70's had telltale water indicators that would just dribble down the cowling when in gear at idle<br />if your concerned about engine temp feel the upper half of the exhaust plate when idling.....should be same temp as lake water[or slightly warmer] if it is yer ok
