1971, 40hp

i have a 71 40 hp mercury and i am having trouble whit the choke system i have a electric and manual set up, but on either when i choke it,the flap goes to far, to far for the manual knob to catch it, i ordered a spring for it but have no idea where it would hook up or even how, and i cant find any links to show me a pic of it any help would be grateful

then click on carb and choke linkage and click get images/parts. This the one for my '77 50hp but probably the same. If you have your serial number, you can find your exact model. Remember to use the slide bar on the side to see the full picture.
