G'day i was wondering if anybody knew if the forty plus for 1970 somthing had a sealed gearcase(the only info i know about age is that it has a bing carbie. and yesterday i took the cylinder head off and half of the water ports were rusted with junk in it so i scraped it out and put a little rust converter in it is this ok. thanks

OMCfreak, yes they should indeed be sealed since it has to hold gearoil within.
I would consider it commom enough to find some rust evidence ib the water ports on a 1970 model. I all depends on the maintanence and clean up operation after each trip.
Check the impellor for wear, also check the water delivery tube isn't either blocked or misalighned at the connection to the gearcase (inside the muffler).
Ross
