does anyone have any pictures or maybe could snap a couple pics to show how the fuel tank is fastened in place..it looks like it just has some sort of putty on the 4 corners....i cant see anywhere it might have been strapped in.
thank you

cj, here's some pics of what i got.

i think what i got is from the oem. though i don't think mines fastened down right either. in the one pic ya can see 2 loose straps. one to the back, one to the ft. i've never figured out where either fastens to. short of the middle one that is fastened down.

so i guess some straps are present.

even though mine isn't fastened down proper. i've never had it move best i'm aware of.

Re: 1970 nineteen i/o fuel tank

thanks ziggy....i managed to find a couple holes in the deck that corrosponds to a tiedown clip or whatever they are that are used in other places such as the battery....there riveted in place. seems like the only thing that fits in them though are bungies....
im glassing down some supports so i strap it in better...
i was going to pull the tank yesterday to clean everything up but i cant :( yours looks like it would be easy to do but id have to either
remove the whole gimbal assembly....
or cut the seat out.......im not about to do either!!!!
thanks again
the old man used a eye screw in one of the holes from the rivets and bungies...crappy pic but you can see the seat structure is molded all one piece..

The picture is correct, it was an aluminum band with a piece of rubber under it. Ziggy's is factory, and it had two extra rubber strips under it to let air/water under and around it.

do i understand correctly. the fore and aft strap were not secured to anything from the factory?
seeing the loose straps has always kinda had me wondering about where to fasten them to. 2 extra straps keeping the tank off the sole makes sense though.

thanks for the input AristoCraft...

they used the strapping in yours where they had blobs of putty in the 70.
but the 70 doesnt have the molded indents where your center strap is.
pretty cool seeing how the slightest changes are made through the years.

ziggy how long did it take for you to figure out that tube in the bow to drain the sliding window? or did they change that? my old man realized what iss was for a couple years after having the boat when it got plugged and filled up with water :) now he runs wire through it all the time.

yeah it is. and i'm highly interested for obvious reasons... + i just like boats in general. which is all mom and dads fault for taking me to grandads cabin in mn when i was one and every year thereafter till i moved out.... thanks mom and dad.. :)

nope, i got the drain too, pretty much figured it out right away. i didn't have a survey done when i bought it. i did take a 4 page check list i got off the www though. one of the items was to look it over from bow to stern. i saw that and wondered what it was so had a look inside and saw it connected to the window pocket (might be the wrong word but gets the idea across). when i found that i also answered the question as to where the window disappeared to when down.
dealer i bought the boat from told me he'd never seen a used boat buyer shake a boat down like i did. guess that's good. i went over everything.. starting with laying down at the stern and crawling to the bow on my back looking for defects.. that little move saved me on one boat. was looking at a cobalt and did that. found a 2-3' long crack on the bottom of the boat. crazy dealer wanted to know if i wanted to go for a test drive. just told him no since i didn't bring my pfd with me.. crazy dealer... sure glad i missed that one so i could be hip to AristoCrafts.... :D

Re: 1970 nineteen i/o fuel tank

my dad went in partnership with 3 others when they got this one from the original owner back in the mid-late 80's..... it was sitting out in a field behind a barn. they set it all up for fishing mostly for lakers here in lake champlain and salmon in lake ontario. after a few years something happened and they decided to sell out so the ol man bought it. i can remember going with him to pick it up in his old 2 door chevette.........yes your reading it right an old chevette:/ luckily we didnt have to go very far....
up until the past couple years...the only thing i remember him having trouble with is the manifold rusted out, other than that its been 1 hell of a boat! shes starting to show her age though. a few more years out of it and he'll be happy.

:eek:yikes, i inherited one of them pieces of s*** when i got married. from her side. shoulda known the marriage wouldn't work out with that kinda inspiration. glad ya didn't have far to go towing with it. mine worked poorly w/o towing i thought.

yep, i did me a manifold and riser within a week or two of scoring lime time. when i bought it i knew it was on it's way out. had a big rust line at the bottom of it. got me a few hundie off the sale price for that. wasn't enough to buy a manifold and riser though. my error.
other than that its been 1 hell of a boat!
heck, the manifold and riser is pm after however much time goes by. i'll seconded that 1 hell of a boat. i thought i'd put mine through some paces, but from your storys, i think ya may be up on me. i'll just have to try harder i guess... ;)

heck, all the work your doing to her and surely she'll last more and a few more years. maybe pass her down to your kids.... :D
