1970 Mercury 500e Lower unit

hey,<br /> im lookin at a 1970 500e. the but the boat in the water and it ran and idled good. I shifted in to forward ans all was well. when the boat was just about on plane the motor felt like it was going in to nuetral. when i pulled back ion the throttle a little bit the satrted moveing again. what in the lower unit is causing this?

What do u mean by the prop slipping?

Anyone have an idea what bubbakat means about the prop slipping?

The prop is literally spinning on the hub, or rather the hub is spinning and the prop is freewheeling. Imagine a wheel/rim spinning independently of the tire thats on it. Try a different prop....hub may be worn out on that one.
