I recently inherited a new 1970 20hp Mercury Outboard. I say new because it has never been used. So is this motor worth something. Maybe as a collectible? Thanks.

Just my opinion. I would say that it has value as a collectible but probably only as much as it is worth as a good usable engine . If u r looking to sell it remember that whatever u ask there is an *** for every seat.

I bought a 1972 for $100 late last year

depends on where you are located. in the right area, you may get $1k

even if it hasnt been used, a 46 year old motor will need a bunch of love to be made runable (wiring? new impeller, carb kit, etc)

Welcome aboard.

Does it run or just look pretty? A 70' model isn't much of a collectible, unlike some much older Merc models.

Never been started. Would not even try as I am aware that seals etc have probably dried out. Thinking more as a collectible. Thanks.

Not sure there is collector value. Old Mark motors, yes, however not gor 70s fishing motors As wall art, ts worth $100 (thats the going rate down here) since its before stainless shafts, its a fresh water only fishing motor
