Hello, new member here… I have acquired a 1970 Merc 110 9.8hp outboard with bad stop switch wiring. It has the Thunderbolt Ignition. I have recently learned a ton about this particular ignition system and have decided to stop experimenting with wiring up a new style stop switch and eliminate it altogether. I will just choke the engine to kill it to avoid stator damage. The switch on this motor has one wire coming directly from the normally closed push button and runs to an insulator block on the engine. Here it connects with a “salmon” colored wire coming from the stator. Then there is a ground wire running from the stator down to a ground screw next to the stop switch. This loop has to be grounded to get spark. My question is, can I bypass the switch and just run a wire straight to ground from the connection at the insulator block? I attached some pics to illustrate the wiring as found, and as I hope to do. Any help would be appreciated! View attachment 378505View attachment 378506
