Ok so among all my other problems now my motor will not crank over anymore. i jumped the starter direct from the bat and that spun the stater. So im thinking it could be the solenoid? Maybe something in the wiring harness or the nuteral saftey switch??

First test battery. Is it charged? Are all connections clean and tight? Did you check for blown fuse/s? If all good, do you have power to battery side of solenoid? (NO) Check for bad connection/s. (YES) Have friend turn ignition to start position and on solenoid wire post marked(s)test for power. Is there power? (NO) Check ignition switch or wire/s, neutral safety switch.(YES)Check starter side of solenoid with volt meter. Is there 12.58 to 13.8vdc?(YES). Renew starter. (NO) Renew solenoid. Good luck and post back results.

Awesome thanks for the help i'll do that. i was checking the neutral saftey switch and looks like the guy that had it before me grounded the wire? maybe to bypass switch? battery is good just took it off the charger, so i newb question with the volt meter do i put both leads on the same post or ground the black lead. Also do i need my buddy to actually hold the key in the start postion like he is trying to start the motor while a take a reading tried it with out and i dont get anything so im guessing i do need him to hold the key on?

Thanks Monte1961 for the info, i tested the solenoid and turns out it was dead replaced that and the boat fired up but now i have some more unexpected work, i have some fuel leaking from under the silencer plate and the boat is running really fast at idle.

Carb time buddy. Get yourself some new carb kits and getter done! Your almost there. The reason it's running at fast idle! I am glad to hear that the solenoid was the issue. I think when you overhaul carbs, you will be a happy man! Good luck and post back!

Also before I forget. When you overhaul carbs, Do it right the first time, and get yourself OEM kits for it. You will be glad you did! Post back.

Yes at the beginning of this forum you can look in the top secret files, Joe Reeve's Timing method. It works well if you follow the directions he describes. Good luck and post results! Monte
