1970 evinrude 115 slipping out of gear

Ok I have a 70 model 115 and when we put it in drive and throttle up it seems like it is slipping it will rev up and go no where but if we eas into it really slow it gets on plain fine and runs grea.I have tried putting the motor farther in the water and it seems to be worse do y'all have any ideas

Sounds like a spun hub to me,Make a mark with a waterproof marker on the prop and on the hub,runthe boat in the water and compare after.If marks are out of line=spun hub.
