1970 correct craft side pockets

Im current restoring my 1970 correct craft barracuda and i have the boat gutted right now and currently it does not have side pockets for storage. I want to add side pockets but there are vertical wooden stringers where i would be putting the pockets i know they are there for support and structure but is it possible to cut them and run a horizontal board across about half way so i would be able ti do the side pockets i new to this but would like some storage as the boat currently has none

You have to remember that we all don't have your particular boat model sitting at the dock. However some pictures of the area you plan for side pockets will help our experienced craftsmen advise you. Not too close and not too far away for the photos.
