1970 60hp johnson

i have a 60 hp with 3 carbs that i,m tryiing to set up
full throttle it runs great slow speed it runs with a miss and some times when it idles and i put it in gear to take off slow it just dies. this motor i pulled the wire off when it,s running to see what cylinder was the problem and number one had the less idle rough when i pulled the wire.
compression on each cylinder is 125psi and all three show a spark.

has this engine ever had a decarb? when were the carbs, last cleaned and rebuilt? i thinking you have dirty carbs. do all 3 then do a linc n sinc, follow the manual step by step , no variations. a decarb with Seafoam will do it wonders.

i put a extra carb on number 1 cylinder to see if it make a diff and it did not. all cylinder show good spark so i think maybe it a reed value problem. how can i check it with out pulling reed apart?

99% that what i said will fix it. use new crab rebuild kit with new floats, then do the linc n sinc. if you need carb adjustments click my name to get email address, request carb adjustment.

i checked the spark on each cylinder and found out that there,s not a steady spark. it,s like the spark is missing but when it sparks there,s a storng blue spark

o.k i found i puller so i can take the fly wheel off and look at the points. it looks like the points are out to far like .020 out the book said it should be .010. i set them at .010 and will see how it runs tomorrow it was getting to late to run it because it,s loud out of the water on muffs.
does,nt joe reeve have a post about setting base timing so i can read up?
