Thank you for all of the help so far.

I tried to take the boat out today. The compression is 160psi even across all 3. I have spark to all plugs. The carb seems to be working properly.

My problem is when I am in forward the boat goes about 5mph in low or full throttle. The engine rev's up but it does not go any faster. Then after I run it for a bit it will surge forward all of a sudden, like a clutch has engaged or something. Then once all of a sudden it seemed to completely engage and off I went like everything was perfect. I stopped the engine, out the cover on. Started it up and it was back to 5mph.

I have run Merc carbon build up cleaner thru it. Cleaned the carbs with carb cleaner. Checked the plugs for fouling.

Also, now at high rpm under no load, but in the water, it is irratic, like it is missing a spark, or?

Overall the boat does seem to run better wach time I take it out.

What is the correct spark plug gap and spark plug for this motor? Can I and how do I adjust the timing?

Could it be the wrong size prop or the tilt of the prop that is causing any of this?

Thanks again..
