My 1150 inline six (with two mechanical fuel pumps) seems to have gotten worse over the last few weeks on a fuel starvation issue. Right now, if I can get the boat running at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, it will run all day, but the trouble is getting it going. I can pump the fuel bulb and it will get hard like it is susposed to, but when I go for a "hole shot" the motor never really gets going. If I idle down and then check the fuel bulb and its dry and takes a bunch of pumps to get hard again. It seems if I start off slow, I can get up to speed. The vent on the tank is open.
I replaced the diaphrams in the fuel pumps earlier this summer. I did not replace the check valves. I've pulled the tops on the carbs and there is no debris in the filters. I can blow through the fuel lines with little pressure, so I don't think there is a restriction due to alcohol detoriation. The bulb and fuel line going to the pumps are new. I'm using one of those Wal-Mart Atwood 6 gallon tanks which is also new this year. I don't know what kind of a pick-up it has, but I imagine its just a brass clunker.
I'm thinking it may be the check valves, but I'm looking for suggestions.
Thanks.
