Hi, <br /><br />I have a early 70's 65HP 4 cylinder that needs water pump replacement. I can only get the lower unit to split about 1/2 inch. Looks as though it is being held- 
up somewhere near where the shift shaft couples to the lower unit. There is a small (stripped) brass access in the vicinity of this coupling. Is there something I'm missing? <br /><br />And yes, all 6 nuts/bolt are off.<br /><br />Thanks in advance for any replies.
