Discussed this in the past and I found a 1961 40hp RDS-23 with a tiller and am trying to figure out if I can use the tiller and parts from that.No parts listed for the RDS -23 that I can find to see if they will work on the 33hp skitwin.I think they may but not sure.

The tiller will work just fine. What I'm not 100% sure of is the gear/shaft that passes through the steering bracket. It might be the wrong length---or maybe not. Compare part with RD-23

Thanks-I just couldn't find a tiller parts breakdown for those early models.Someone referred me to a 40hp 1975 parts list that showed the tiller and associated parts I believe.Tiller looks different as far as the grip I mean. The shaft # is 377273 that F-R is referring to I believe?I wonder if those old 40hp tillers are desireable if in descent shape?

Desirable? Pardon me while I grin. When the motors were new, everybody removed the tiller and tossed it in the boat to club catfish to death. That's why OMC quit putting them on all but rope start models. Now everybody is trying to find them again. Reckon we've gone full circle.

The reason I mentioned it is where I live we have a pretty rocky river and the smaller tiller motors to throw on Jon boats are pretty popular that is why I would prefer the tiller on my skitwin.Would make a good Jon boat motor with the short shaft.I think a 40hp tiller would of been pretty uncommon around here.Mostly smaller hp for the average river fisherman.
