Have a chance to pick one up for next to nothing. When I was a kid, we had a 60 of about the same vintage on a 16' wood Thompson, and I remeber it being really dependable. Any opinions on this motor? Thanks all.

Yes it is a great outboard ...... for it's time. Just rember lots of changes have happened in how many years ?

Biggest problem will be if you have spark troubles.If you can still get the power pack it must be costly.I believe the points are NLA.

But go ahead,it might be a great toy as well.

Having bought and "cleaned up" a rude 40, 1964... I say go for it, if you can have a real good look at it..objectively. Buying a "heap" is never a good deal... check it out throughly...and avoid the guy who says "it ran great last season...but you can have it for 50.00". Remember it costs more than that just to get it ready for a season... always....caveat emptor.... "buyer beware"...but hey, as I told my wife...better I spent it on an out-board, rather than being out with a broad...:}

Have fun.....

Sam, I hear ya. I just finished "cleaning up" a 1960 40 HP Johnson. It runs great, but it's just a little small for the boat. Thanks for the input.
