I don't think there's an easy way to do it, from the way they have the hydraulic lines run back then. It didn't take them long to figure out there was a better way to plumb the trim hydraulics, like Bondo mentions.

Some of those old drives had a small manifold (T) mounted to the gimble housing, above the U-joint bellows. Looks like a nightmare to work on, unless the bellows are removed.

69 was a unique year things changed in 70 and up. There are 2 junction blocks on the port side between the bellows and the gimbal. The starboard hoses pass underneath the bellows (hardline) to the block. I had the drive off prior to seeing the leaking down pressure hose.......only after reinstalling the drive and connecting the cylinders to the drive did I see oil oozing out on moving the drive up/down by hand...........there IS a small block on the outside of the port side gimbal frame....the nuts are inside the frame and not likely to be getting a wrench on one of them.......I plan todig deeper now that I have part numbers and have found replacement hoses.......at $40-50 each....Marine engine.com

Ayuh,..... Are you a Purist, that needs everything "Original",..??

Just up datin' the transom assembly by 10 or 11 years would give ya a much more serviceable driveline, yet look nearly exactly like yer's,....

Only another Purist would ever notice,....

not at all. I am old and getting tired. I currently own 3 Slickcraft and an 86 Searay 300. I have a spare gen2 alpha but wanted to use it on my 72 SS235 and then replace this (leaker) with the 0ne from the 235.......but timing is everything I just wanted to get the 69 on my lake lift for a few weeks. Havent even got it fired up as yet . but I am confident that will happen next week when a few needed parts arrive.
