Alright here's the deal: I bought this '69 in the beginning of July and I want it in the water SOON. I lost three weeks because of shipping issues and geting the wrong parts etc. etc. So far I have gone through the entire wiring harness and swapped starters. It had previously gotten a new hose kit and I'm assuming the fuel pumps were cleaned also. Finally, I got it running (out of the water), but it was idling way to high. I adjusted the cable back, but then it wouldn't start, even with what seemed to be plently of throttle. So when I got to the ramp, i fired it up (idling to high) got it warm and then adjusted the cables back with it runnning. It seemed to be fine putting out to the lake, but when I got to about 1/2 throttle, it felt like I had an intermittent cylinder. It got progressively worse at speed until the whole boat was jerking. I pulled back after about 15 seconds, but the problem would not stop. Finally, it just stalled out and would not start again, despite my every effort. I feel like this may be a timing issue because I am confident in the fuel delivery system. If it were a timing problem, would I be able to do it myself, or should i have it done for me? What tools would I need to do the link and sync? Hoping I don't have to surrender to a mechanic. I've also noticed that the carbs aren't opening all the way at WOT. Maybe its fuel starved? I'd appreciate any suggestions.
