1969 Lonestar Medallion

Hello folks. I live in northern Canada. I have come across a 1969 Lonestar medallion. It looks like it is in decent shape. It has a 70 horse Johnson motor along with a 9.9 kicker. I don't know much about these boats, other than I know that they seem to have a loyal following in Canada. It is a 14" boat with canopy. However, it looks bigger. I am attaching some photos. I would welcome any thoughts or suggestions. The owner is asking the equivalent of $5,500 in US dollars (real money).

70 HP on a 14' aluminum boat is a bit much and that plus a kicker on the transom is also. I knew a guy and went fishing with him once with a 20' lone star with open ended cabin (cover basically, that ran a 70 HP Mercury on it and it was a good match.

Well the wedding and honeymoon came and went and now were back to the real world. When we got back from Branson I was browsing craigslist and came across this '69 16' Lonestar aluminum boat. I have been looking for another tinny for awhile and the price was right on this one. I brought it home...

First, thanks for the response. I made a mistake. The boat is 16 feet and not 14 feet. The floor looks like it has been replaced in the last several years and is in good shape. The canopy looks fairly recent and does not look like it has seen much outside weather. A previous owner obviously repainted the outside of the boat (red on the sides and white on the bottom). Hypothetically speaking I would probably remove all of the paint. It also has the slider front window.

The floor in my 1966 Medallion II by Chrysler also looked good until I noticed how wiggly the Johnson 100HP V4 was on the transom. The transom was rotten up to the horizontal angle brace on it and after digging deeper, the floor was rotten just forward of the spashwell vertical braces. That's when I learned my boat had the "Foam-Pac" expanded foam floatation system which eliminated the ribs for structure. I really liked that boat but did not repair it. Good luck!
