Back on this engine again.. ..compression is consistently 65 lb. in both cyls, and it was suggested in another post that maybe the rings were sticky. I decarbed last season (twice) as the motor probably had never been decarbed before, but I'd say over its lifetime it saw relatively light use after the first few years. I just rebuilt the carb and am about to get it on the lake again.

I'm wondering if I run Seafoam in the gas regularly for a while if that might help the compression. The can has several suggested dilutions for different applications, but what amount per gallon would you recommend?

Thanks.

65 is a tired engine. i have 1 that has 70 but she runs good so i have never rebuilt her. u can try seafoam but i dont think it will help u i dont think its a stuck ring.

Wayne, what gets me about this engine is the condition of the bores:

They just don't *look* bad enough to warrant that sort of compression. That worn out and I would expect to see significant bad scoring, glazed cylinder walls, and probably a ridge forming at the top of the cylinder.
I wonder if something else is causing the rings to stick? I've had an engine which had corrosion stuck rings. Or perhaps a sever overheat warped the bores out of round?

The decarb I would do is to place the engine on it's face, so the bores are pointing striaght up. Then remove the spark plugs and set the pistons part way up (to close the intake and exhaust ports. Finally pour decarb solution directly into the cylinders and let it sit overnight.

I'll give that a try, maybe let it sit for a day or two. I just want to give it a last shot, otherwise I'll use it as it is.
