I have just purchased a 1969 Johnson 85 HydroElectric Drive that came with a Boston Whaler 16'. I'm trying to manually tilt it for trailer but it seems stuck. A manual is on it's way but won't arrive in time. From what I can find on the net there is a tab on the port side and then a lever near the shock. It doesn't seem to want to move. I am unsure which direction to pull or the procedure to tilt. The bottom shock cross bolt looks to need replacement as well. About to dive in to see what I got. if motor works it's a bonus. Rotates but just a little (2"). Thanks.

Look at front of the motor, in center, slightly above the transom, and you should see the tilt release lever. It is about an inch and a half long, swings left and right. One way is to lock it down, other way is to release the lock so you can tilt it. If the lever is missing, broken, or otherwise disabled that is another problem.

The stainless steel tab on the side is to hold it in full tilt position once you get it up.

Thanks. Trying to see just what I have in this old V4. Would love to revive if possible but looks like Amplifier is cracked. That's an expensive first step.
