1969 Johnson 25 horse model 25RL69D Questions

I'm rebuilding my water pump this next week. You guys spooked me and I don't want to burn up my engine, I think that the best thing to do is rebuild, so I can sleep at night. Is there anything else that would be nice to do now that I have the lower unit off? I'm thinking of something very easy like seals or gaskets or any suggestions out side the water pump service, I've got my book for that. I'm going to do the gearbox over the winter, I'm thinking of something that would be nice to have done.Thanks for the suggestions and help. I want to save as much as I can on the shipping charges.

On a 69 engine, a gearcase reseal would be a good idea, as you already have the gearcase off.
