I am thinking about buying one of these. I think its time to sell my johnson 75hp electromatic. This thing looks easier. What should I look for on this however. Are they good motors, does anything routinely go wrong with them.
Thanks

They were great engines when they were new, Juice.

34 Years of little use and good care shouldn't make a lot of difference, but heavy use and neglect could.

The Link 'n' Synch has to be right to get good performance and long life.

Good luck. :)

thanks JB. I started it ran nice, going to take it out on weekend and see how it is in water. Any other things to look for?

Check the gear oil for any water leakage. This engine has the hydro-electric drive, and can give trouble if water is present. A reseal could be cheap insurance as some parts, such as the oil pump are no longer available.

Run a big, fully-charged battery on that, with good clean terminal connections. You have a CD ignition which'll cost you $$ if the powerpack fails. Your charging system is unregulated, and a big battery helps smooth out the voltage spikes, protecting the pack.
