I recently purchased a 1969 - 85 hp Evinrude motor and I started to tune it up. The motor came with Johnson/Evinrude Outboard Tune-Up and repair manual 50 HP thru 125 HP - 1958- 1972 volume III by Joan and Clarence Coles. During my tune up I noticed a few things that needed to be replaced right away. I bought new plugs and wires which brings me to my first question:

What should the gap be?

I then noticed the needles and seats needed to be replaced. I had no problem getting parts (to my surprise) and I'm ready to install the new needles and seats and I found in the tune up manual that the low-speed needle valve needs to be installed as follows:

From the manual: Install the low-speed retainer in the carburetor body. Slide the nylon bearing onto the end of the low-speed needle valve, and then thread the valve into the retainer. Continue threading the valve into the retainer until it seats LIGHTLY, and then back it out COUNTERCLOCKWISE 5/8 turn.

Okay so this tell me the low-speed settings, so on to my next question:

What is the proper setting for the high-speed setting?

My last question is where can a person by a specific manual for an engine? I would really like to get the shop manual for my exact engine. Does such a thing exsist?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hendrix
