1969 85 hp johnson rotor assembly

Well guys just bought a new boat came with this motor , which yesterday i tried to start no spark so i check the wiring replaced and repaired most of it. Still no spark, so took off the fly wheel and was looking at the points a little dirty not bad shape but the rotor assembly part #382424 has a little peice out of the top[/IMG] and i notice there is some thing inside missing looks to me like a wire with a spring on a thin washer. (example from an old bid on ebay that i found on the net)

i look all over just in case it fell off when i was taking it apart can't found nothing and i can't find this part any where Please help thanks

So, let me get this straight: You are looking for the wire piece? Well whoever put that thing in the rotor certainly didn't know what he was doing. The only thing that goes in the rotor is the wave washer to keep it from wobbleing around loose in there. The wire spring thing is the anti-reverse cut-out ring. Its purpose is to kill the ignition in case the motor tries to run backwards (and it will). It goes around the shaft, below the timer plate. The loop goes between the plastic wick holder and the terminal that the wires attach to. It must be lubricated very sparingly with some EP grease. When the motor is running in the proper direction, the loop is against the plastic and does nothing. But if it tries to run backwards, the loop goes up against the wire terminal and grounds it, killing the ignition.
