1969 55 hp johson firing problems.. need help!!!

ive had problems with this motor since i have gotten this boat. ive re-wired it. it will run out to middle of lake then die you may or may not get it started again. i put a tester on it and realized sometimes its sparking and sometimes its not. it will start and run then die and you can check the spark and there is none. whats causing it to have spark and then no spark. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Nobody can answer that. You need to go through the whole service maintenance routine if you want a good reliable motor. That includes starting with the battery and cables connections, verify voltage to the amplifier input, and pull the flywheel and clean the distributor cap and breaker plate. Clean and re-lube the anti-reverse cut-out ring. Set the breaker points at exactly .010". Check continuity on all spark plug wires. Make sure they aren't arcing out at the distributor towers.
