OK folks, need some help.

Thus far I have re-built the carb., replaced the impellor, new plugs, checked spark, all OK.

This weekend I replaced the wiring harness, being very careful to rewire correctly.

All this being done, I cannot get the engine to turn over. It cranks and cranks, but no good. If I spray starter fluid into the carb, it will run for a bit, then stop. This leads me to think I may have screwed up the carb re-build somehow, but it seems so simple, I find it hard to believe..however, I do recognize that "murphy" is always alive and well whenever I am working on something!

Is it possible that here is some hidden thing on the carb that I missed?

Oh, and I did check to make sure gas is getting to the carb. Runs through the hose, the filter, and to the carb OK.

Any input is appreciated....I cry everytime I look at my baby and picture her in the water! Not to mention that my wife is begining to question my sanity!

Thanks for any help you can give.

Best regards,

Al T.

Hi Al,

It definitely sounds carb related. When you say the fuel pump is working, did you remove the line at the carb and then try turning the motor over to see if it pumps into a can?

Also, where's your float level set at? If it's set too low it may not be allowing much if any fuel into the carb. An easy check to see if it is at least operating the float valve is to pull the carb and blow into the fuel barb: first with the carb upright, and then inverted. You should be able to blow into it when upright, and it should shut off when upside down.

Is the cork (or sometimes rubber) gasket that goes arounds the standpipe in the carb body where it meets the carb bowl present? It's a round gasket, about the size of a dime and the thickness of 3 dimes, with a hole in the middle. This gasket is often overlooked.

In any case, go through the carb again and make double sure that it's clean and everything that moves, moves freely.

- Scott

Howdy, Al. You didn't mention the fuel pump. What did you do about the fuel pump?

Did you pump the primer bulb until it was firm?

What evidence did you use to state that the carbs were getting fuel?

Don't EVER use starting fluid on a 2 stroke unless you are trying to kill it. Starting fluid has no lubricant in it. Use WD-40.

When you have been trying to start it, what do the plugs look like?

When you bring a problem to someone, don't say that the widget is good, say what you did and saw. Too many "good" widgets don't work.

Standing by for more info.

JB :)
