Hi and thanks for reading,

I am tryign to figure out why my 1969 115 HP evinrude will not start, she cranks just fine, and i get no spark. when i purchased this boat a few weeks ago she started up just fine for me when the p/o demo'd the motor for me, now she wont start. i took a plug out and held it to the block, and i got no spark, i did this with all 4 and there is no spark. how can i further diagnose this problem?

thanks for reading

Is there a kill switch on the control? Check that out first if so...

Re: 1969 115 evinrude no spark

If you're sure it's a 1969, is has a battery-powered ignition, with a trigger coil & pulsepack (powerpack).

If the battery got disconnected backwards since you tested it, that would've killed the powerpack immediately. If the fuse & rectifier are blown, that's it.

Otherwise, the diagnosis starts by checking whether 12V is getting to the powerpack. We've been through this often, so please search the archives here for a complete description. Post back if something's unclear.

Good luck!

What is the propper way to unhook a battery? I just purchased one of these engines and I am waiting on my manual to come and wondering is there somewhere I can view wiring diagrams at now?
