Hi Everyone,

My dad and I have been rebuilding a 68 Starcraft 14 ft for the last 2 years. We have the original 40HP electic shift motor and it's been rebuilt but it seems to be on it's last leg. My mechanic said we would be lucky to get 2 seasons out of it and we've only made it a few months.

I bought a replacement engine but it's a 75HP and it has a bolt through transom mount, is that something I can install on my transom? Do I need any other brackets or will the standard bracket work?

The current motor is a clam on style.

Check the HP rating for your boat. I think the 75 HP is too heavy and too much power for your boat.

It's the max rated for my 16' Starcraft.

That's what I was afraid of. It was just too good of an offer to turn down the 75.

Welcome aboard

Another thing to think about is what's the transom height on your 14'r? 15" is for a short shaft motor and 20" in long shaft.

I agree that a 75 would be way over powered for that size boat. A newer 35 that is prop rated would be great, just make sure the shaft length matches your boat.
