I have a 68 Mercury 50hp four cylinder 2 stroke. Starts and runs awesomely, runs all day - unless you turn it off and try to restart it. Sometimes stalls out when it idles after running a bit as well. When you go to restart it, it will fire, run for 2-3 seconds and then stall out. You will then have to choke it, as well as have the cold start at least 1/2 on. It will then idle, but if you put it in gear or try to give it gas "too soon" it will stall again, and you have to repeat several times until it feels like running again. Plugs are clean and newish, and I'm planning a carb rebuild and fuel pump rebuild kit. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Myself I would start with removing the magneto assembly ( lower half ) and then replace the condenser.-----Clean and set the points to 0.010" and re-install.---No magic to it

Planning a condenser too. I would just replace the points but they are over $100! Just a cleaning as you mentioned...
