Hi..i have been trying to start my 65 hp for the last month, it di turn over for about 30 seconds then stopped. i used a sparlk plug tester on all 4 spark plugs and no spark, i then removed the flywheel points look very clean but i sanded them anyway. and put back everything with the same results..do you think the points need to be reset? is there any way to check the points with the flywheel off..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

iam no xpert at this electrical system , there is a diode with a green & purple wire , yellow , grey & white , i would bypass that diode for the time being , connect the yellow & green\purple together & ground the grey & white , see what happens . to set points remove flywheel place the nut on shaft & turn with spanner the points will open when it comes into contact with the lubes on the shaft . all the best hope you come right .

nor am i good at this but will help where i can iam sure there are others that know more than you & i . first check to see if you have power coming to the points connect a 12v light to the wire on the points & ground the other 1 turn the shaft so that the points open & close the light should go on & off , don't for get to turn the key on . this is just to check if you have power coming to the distributor , it could be that the diode is faulty , that's why we want to disconnect it for the time being , dont for get to ground the grey & white or grey & yellow wire one of these 2 i cant remember the coulours , but join the yellow & purple\green those are your + wires
