I need to replace some of the old wiring on my motor. The original wire was a silicone heat resistent type. It is extremely hard to get, especially in the colors I need(don't want to confuse myself). Can I substitute wire from a 240volt power lead? It happens to be the right colors. PS: Is there a limit to how many questions I post? My knowledge has increased a hell of alot from zero but I don't want to become a pest.

don't worry about the color, go to your local auto parts store and buy some white heat shrink. they will know what you are asking for. label the heat shrink with a permanant marker with a label that indicates where the other end goes and shrink the piece on each wire just below the connection point. that is how electricians do it except that we use pre numbered tape which unfortunately will not survive the heat and oil inside your motor

Try your local hobbie shop, they usually carry silicon insulated wire, has a high current rating and can handle a lot of heat, (80 amps at 7.6 volts = lots of heat!) not real cheap though. also try Jaycar, RS, or Farnell, they are elecronics suppliers and should have something compatable.
