1968 19 foam questions?

Hello all, I have recently acquired a 1968 ArisoCraft 19. The foam needs to be replaced. I have searched the topic but cannot not find which foam to use. I know that I need to use closed cell, but what density? Any brands that are better than others? Where is the cheapest, dependable place to buy this from? Will I need 30 cubic feet?

I would really appreciate some insight on this. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to iboats.

What you need is 2lb density two part foam and MANY places sell it. Shop around on the net..... look at US Composites for a price idea..... they might be best.

Re: 1968 19 foam questions?

Hey Rod, welcome to I-boats and to the Aristocraft area.

I guess the first question from me would be do you have an 8-teen or 9-teen because they were both made in 68. Flat transome...8-teen...20 cubic feet, rounded transome...9-teen...30 cubic feet.

Also...where the pics?? We like seeing the model changes.

Thanks Bob for that info as I have all the foam from my 8-teen and will be replacing soon.

Re: 1968 19 foam questions?

Thank you. It is a 19 (curved transom). Does not have the ski locker or ice chest. I will take some pics and get them posted even though the boat is in rough shape. I am missing the hardtop, floor has a crack, windshield is in need of replacing, 250 block is cracked, seats are fair, engine cowl has been painted red with a goofy flame job.

I am looking forward to getting this boat back in the water. Best I can tell its all original.

Is all 30 cubic feet of foam under the floors? I don't want to start the project without enough foam and because the price of the foam I sure don't want to buy anymore than is needed. I also understand that I will need to allow for some waste.

I believe 1968 was the first year for the 19. Anybody know what the production numbers were for 68?

Re: 1968 19 foam questions?

Dude!!!!Good looking boat. This one has a lot of potential. She'll look great on the water.

As far as I know, all the foam is under the deck bow to stern. The biggest problem I had was getting to the foam in the bow. I had to cut out the seat bases to get to it. I think I see the floor crack and it may be that you don't have to take out the foam alll the way to the bow. Cedarjunki pulled the foam out from his dad's 9-teen from the rear facing front seats to the stern as everything forward was dry. I wasn't that lucky for a couple reasons, it all had to go. Seems like I remember Aristocraft saying that the early 9-teens had the same hull as the 18-teen, so the cubic feet may be different on your boat than the newer 9-teens. Maybe CJ or Ziggy can answer better than I can.

From what I've heard from Scott at Aristocraft, the 8-teen was from 67 1/2 to 68 1/2 and the 9-teen went from 68 1/2 to 80. Actually, try giving him a call. His number is one their website www.aristocraftboats.com. He should be able to answer all of your questions. They still have some parts available for your boat and recently re-made the jig for the rails.

Thank you. I guess I need to stop procrastinating and cut the floors and see what I'm working with.

Hi Rodster and welcome to the group. She's a sweet looking AristoCraft. I think Scott at AristoCraft knows someone with a red top for a 19, not sure if it's the year you're looking for though. We dug out the foam from just behind the back of the front seats, to the back seats. We'll be taking more out under the back seats and gas tank. You may want to do a bit of exploratory cutting-there is a chance that your foam is dry further up-though I guess that depends on how long she hasn't had a top. Can't wait to see your progress!

Hi Rodster,

I don't know how close you are to the Atlanta, GA area but I just saw a listing in the Blue Ridge Chapter of the ACBS newsletter that someone is selling AristoCraft parts...... saw a 19 top.

Atlanta would be a little too far away from me. I am in Tulsa OK. There is a lot of boat salvages around the lakes. I will try to find a top in Oklahoma.

On another note, I did get some of the floor cut out. Foam is saturated. I found a place local to buy foam and fiberglass material. Great people to deal with. La Faver Fiberglass is the name of the place.

Looking forward to getting out on the lake.

Sorry to hear about your foam. I purchase some parts in OK. a few years back and only saw one 19 without a top. Your bow light is the same as my 67, and I am still trying to chase that down. Of course the salavage yard I delt with has gone out of bus., I think it was near Grand Lake. I will keep my eye open for a top in this area (Branson, MO.).

They do have the bow light listed on the AristoCraft website for 35.00 I don't know if its the same light your looking for. Maybe give them a call. I will probably be ordering a windshield from them this week.
