1967 Johnson 9.5 MQ-13 won't idle in gear

Trying to get my outboard to troll without dying. I replaced every single piece of fuel line from the tank to the carb, new fuel filter, carb clean, new plugs last year. Runs great at cruising rpm's and starts right up. It will idle for a few seconds in gear, then it will eventually cough a few times and then die.

Does spark jump a gap of 5/16" on both leads , yes or no ?

carb cleaned properly…….. incl the chambers with the little plastic thingnies… float ok ?



does it idle ok with the top cowl off…? motors are know to suffocate on their own exhaust fumes

try increasing the minimum idle speed with the side adjustment knob
