I have 1969 Lund runabout with a 1967 Evinrude 40 hp 40752E outboard. The gearcase is cracked. Evidently it had a couple of weld repairs already so it needs to be replaced. It is tough to find this gearcase. Does anyone know if a gearcase from any other year or model Evinrude fit this motor?

The gearcase for your model is tough to find because it was only made two years. But fear not, any (complete) 40hp Evinrude or Johnson manual shift gearcase from 1960 through 1970 will work if you use the right water tubes and pump housing to go along with it. The water tubes just pull out of the upper grommets, so no big whoop.

Phew...Thank you for the info! By complete, what do you mean? The gears and everything inside is still in good shape. This is good news even though it still may be difficult to locate.

I said that because you MIGHT find some kind of a problem with using your internals in a older gearcase. Put probably not, I'm just not 100% positive.

Thanks F_R. I found a 1969-70 complete lower unit on Ebay, but I want to get a photo of my motor to make sure it looks the same.
