1967 9.5 - newbie question

Just bought this week. I have never owned a boat of any kind, so I ordered an owner's manual (not here yet). I heard the motor run before buying and it seems to run well, but now I'd like to learn how to put it in neutral (and reverse) while waiting for the manual.
Thanks

Turn the tiller handle to point to "shift". Raise the shift lever handle for reverse, lower the handle for forward. When the handle is midway, the motor is in neutral.

Shift from neutral to either gear quickly and sharply, but wait for the propeller to stop before going from forward to reverse or from reverse to forward.

The tiller handle controls speed by turning counter-clockwise to increase. WOT is mechanically blocked except in forward gear.

You can see the parts diagrams for the 1968 9.5 models here: http://shop.evinrude.com/

Also: don't force into gear when not running. The gears have to mesh. If you need it it gear for any reason not running, rotate the prop as you shift.
