1967 1150 trim pump conversion

Has anyone here successfully modified a newer two line mercury trim pump to work on a older 1150 with the 4 line system

Following,

I don't know where the year/system break is. I've a 1975 "850" and this guy has to use a assist bar to raise it

Also is it possible to delete the three button merc switch and use a simple two way momentary switch from a parts house
