1966 Mercury 6hp Water Tube Leaks, HELP

I have a 1966 Mercury 60, 6hp outboard. It was not pumping water, so I replaced the water pump. I checked out the copper water tube before I put it back together (blew air through it), and there is air leaking out near where it fits in the grommet in the upper housing.

I was told you can pull this tube out, but I have tried, and it will not budge. I was thinking there was a hole in it that was causing the air leak. (Air leak would = water leak.)

Any ideas how to get this out, or where the leak could be coming from?

Thanks.

Btw, How do you get rid of that obnoxious chevy truck pop-up. It sucks?..

Cowchipz, if you're talking about the fitting under the powerhead there is a rubber seal that fits there for the water-tube to slip into. If its old and dried out you can just replace it. If your talking about the upper housing on the water-pump, there is a seal there thats replaceable also. As far as the truck pop-up you close it out in the upper RH corner.lol

I have a 64 , pretty sure it's the same, I ordered these rubber seals by accident and I have them if they are the same part #.

I have a Mercury 1966 6hp 60, I just replaced the impeller. Does the new one turn free or is it fairly snug and hard to turn. Secondly; whats the secrete for lining up the lower unit when reassembling? Can't seem to get everything lined up? I am on my seventh try? Help!
