Hello all! i'm a newcomer to the forums so I hope I'm going about this correctly. Here's whats going on with my old girl. She idles very very rough in or out of gear to the point of dying if I don't keep advancing the throttle. And also it does not rev to the rpms it normally has, seems about 2/3 or so,just won't climb over the top so to speak. have had this motor for a lifetime and has always been dependable and performed well on my 14 ft. alum. mod. v-hull. And the short shaft really helps me get to the best fishin holes.anyway here is what I have done so far. Replaced fuel tank and hose. new champion plugs. cleaned carb even though it seemed not necessary,no varnish. carb had overhaul couple years ago and hasnt seen much fuel since. Also fuel pump was replaced at that time so assuming that is ok but not ruling it out i guess. Did a compression check and got 75 and 80 psi (happy to see!) Have not gone under flywheel and checked any of that because I'm unsure I want to tackle that if there is a prob.Got spark on both cylinders because I can pull off either plug wire and it will start, not sure how strong the electricity is though. while idling I pulled off each plug wire though and once it kept running and the other stopped her cold. Hope I wasnt too long winded just wanted to give as much info as possible to help with a suggestion. Thanks to all

HI noth. Welcome to iboats. You're only running on one cylinder, which is why you could pull one plug with no effect and pull the other and have it die. Confirm a strong, bright blue spark that can jump a 1/4" gap. You'll probably want/need to remove the flywheel to inspect the ignition. You can get an parts (tune up kit, carb kit impeller etc...) you may need from right here at iboats for about $20 each.

thanks for the reply! So your thinking points, coils, condensers. somewhere in that group? do I need a puller to get the flywheel off? guess I'll dive in can't be that difficult (I hope)
