1966 Johnson 5HP question

I have a 1966 5 hp Johnson and need to know if the gas tank needs to be vented. The tank that I got when I purchased the motor is a plastic one and has a vent that can unscrew to open it on the filler cap. Should I open the vent or not?<br /><br />Thanks and have a great holiday.

Yes, vent the tank when in use...I'm assuming it's a single line fuel hose..

As Xcusme stated vent while in use.<br />Since 1960 almost every tank was a single line type instead of the obsolete preasurized type.
