1966 evinrude 60hp v4

ok this is my problem i just picked up this motor and it had a slugish thrttle reponce going from idle to full throttle but once at full throttle it runs great do my carbs need cleaned?

probably and a link n sinc, do you check spark and compression on the motor.

yes everything checked out fine just stumbles comming out of idol to full throttle could the carb be gummed up?

ok i leaned out the carbs some seems to help just wondering if the carbs where set to rich cousing it to chough comming out of idol???/

Possibly set too rich. Also it is possible that the crankcase drain valves are plugged up. When that happens, fuel puddles in the crankcase at idle and when you open the throttle the puddle goes through the cylinders, causing a very rich mixture till it gets done swallowing and expelling the puddle.

Motors of that era were very inefficient and dumped a lot fuel overboard from those drain valves.

if i tap my auto choak just as it starts to stumble it takes off like a champ but as i leanaed out the carbs it starting to get better responce
