ok i need to know how to set the points on a 1966 evinrude 60 hp V4 motor with a distributor? the access hole wont let me see the points to adjust them correctly? do the arrows haft line up???? I'm just checking that the timing and points are lined up correctly:D and does the generator hook directly to the battery? or does it need something Else to complete the charging system?

I thought the points were supposed to be adjustable when the hole is over them. Actually, I never do it that way, which is why I am wondering? I always take the pulley off so I can do something in there.

You can check the points gap/timing by disconnecting the wire from the stud on the side of the mag and connect a ohmmeter to it. The points should break and be indicated on the meter as the timing mark on the pulley aligns with marks on the breaker plate.

The generator is connected through, and controlled by, a voltage regulator in the junction box. It is a D.C. generator, not an alternator. Us old geezers remember D.C. generators but the new guys don't have a clue. By your question, I'm thinking you don't have the junction box?
